The South Carolina Horsemen's Council posthumously named Dr. J. Richard McDuffie, Sr. "Horseman Of The Year" at its annual meeting on February 10, 2007.  The following tribute was included in the event program.

Friend to all, Messenger of God, Beloved Equestrian
Reverend Dr. John Richard McDuffie

"I HAVE FOUGHT A GOOD FIGHT, I HAVE FINISHED MY COURSE, I HAVE KEPT THE FAITH,
HENCEFORTH, THERE IS LAID UP FOR ME A CROWN OF RIGHTEOUSNESS, WHICH THE LORD, THE
RIGHTEOUS JUDGE, SHALL GIVE ME AT THAT DAY; AND NOT TO ME ONLY, BUT UNTO ALL THEM
ALSO THAT LOVE HIS APPEARING"
2 Timothy 2: 7, 8

Reverend Dr. John Richard McDuffie went to be with the Lord Sunday, December 24, 2006.  He was called to the ministry at the age of sixteen and had served as a Baptist minister in many churches in North Carolina and South Carolina.  Pastor McDuffie was a graduate of Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary, Wake Forest, N.C., and received his Doctorate from Luther Rice Seminary, Jacksonville, FL.  He was a founding member of Equestrian Ministries International and South Carolina Equestrian Ministries.  Currently he served as a member of the EMI board of directors and also as consultant of SCEM. He was also serving as Equestrian Minister as consultant for the South Carolina Baptist Convention.  He was on the Board of Directors of the McCurdy Plantation Horse Association.

Pastor Richard McDuffie loved the Lord and certainly fulfilled the Father's commandment in Matthew 28, "Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost."

Pastor McDuffie had a vision of using one of God's most beautiful creations, the HORSE, to minister to others while riding on the trail; at Sunday morning Cowboy Church services; or just sitting by the campfire talking to people who needed the Lord at a long weekend trail ride. He was an inspiration to all.

His vision was completed on Sunday, December 24, 2006, as he was ushered into the Kingdom of God, and I believe heard, “WELCOME HOME, MY FAITHFUL SERVANT."
